FAQ・Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use these names for commercial projects?
Yes. You can use generated names in personal or commercial projects (games, books, videos, tabletop campaigns, etc.).
Do the generated names have copyright or usage restrictions?
In general, no. However, generated names can coincidentally match existing fictional characters or trademarks. If you're publishing, do a quick search to avoid conflicts.
How are the fantasy names created?
The generator combines race-flavored phonetic patterns (sound, rhythm, endings) commonly seen in fantasy and RPG naming conventions.
What makes each race sound different?
We bias the output toward different linguistic vibes: elves tend to be melodic, dwarves sturdier and more traditional, orcs harsher and punchier—then the style setting further shifts the tone.
Are the names unique? Will I get duplicates?
We aim for variety, but duplicates can happen due to the nature of generation. If you need many names, generate a bigger batch and pick your favorites.
What happens if I set gender to 'Any'?
It mixes male/female patterns to produce gender-neutral or ambiguous results—great for NPCs or when you want to avoid a fixed gender presentation.
Do you generate first names and last names?
Most races output a full name (first + last). You can always drop the surname or keep only the part that fits your setting.
What's the difference between Classic, Grimdark, and Whimsical styles?
Classic aims for readable high-fantasy names, Grimdark leans darker and sharper, and Whimsical favors lighter, fairy-tale-like sounds.
Does this work for RPGs beyond D&D?
Yes. The names are usable for D&D/Pathfinder and most fantasy RPG systems, as well as novels and game worlds.
Where is my generation history stored? Is it private?
For convenience, history is stored locally in your browser (on your device). It's not designed to store personal data on a server. If you're on a shared device, clear history when done.
How can I use the CSV/Markdown export?
CSV works well in Excel/Google Sheets for sorting and tagging. Markdown is easy to paste into Notion, GitHub, or campaign notes. If you see encoding issues, open as UTF-8.
Can I suggest new races or styles?
Yes. We’re always expanding. Send requests for additional races (e.g., goblins) or styles (e.g., Japanese-inspired, sci-fantasy, etc.).
