What makes 2048 so replayable?
2048 is easy to understand and surprisingly hard to master. Every move shifts the entire board, so short-term gains can quietly create long-term traps. That tension is what makes the game compelling: each merge feels rewarding, but every empty cell matters. This version is built for quick browser play with practical quality-of-life features. You can restore your current board after a refresh, switch between 3x3, 4x4, and 5x5 layouts, undo one move, and keep playing after you reach 2048.
How to play
Move every tile together
Press an arrow key or swipe in one direction. All tiles slide as far as they can in that direction.
Merge matching numbers
When two tiles with the same value collide, they combine into a larger number and add that amount to your score.
Protect space on the board
Keep open cells whenever possible. Once the grid fills up and no adjacent matches remain, the game ends.
Player Notes
Mina, Product Designer
The warm tile palette looks great, and the saved-state restore makes this version much easier to revisit between tasks.
Caleb, Mobile Gamer
Swipe input feels clean on my phone, and the 5x5 board adds a completely different rhythm.
Rin, Puzzle Fan
Undo being limited to one step feels fair. It helps without draining the tension from the game.

FAQ
Can I keep playing after reaching 2048?
Yes. A victory modal appears when you create the 2048 tile, and you can continue playing immediately after that.
Does this game save my progress?
Yes. The board, score, best score, and play statistics are stored in your browser with localStorage.
What happens when I change board size?
Changing from 3x3 to 4x4 or 5x5 starts a new game right away. The URL parameter updates to reflect the selected size.
How many times can I undo?
Undo is limited to the most recent move. Once you use it, the next move creates a new undo state.
